Mumbai senior citizen dies waiting in queue outside bank

MUMBAI: A senior citizen standing in queue outside a co-operative bank in Bhayander to exchange defunct currency reportedly collapsed after suffering a cardiac stroke on Wednesday. He was declared dead on admission to the hospital.

The Bhayander police have registered a case of accidental death. Deepak Shah (60), a resident of Shreepal Building, Devchand Nagar, Bhayander (west) went to the Bassein Catholic Co-operative Bank to exchange Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes.

As he stood in the queue at around 7 am, he complained of pain in the chest and collapsed on the road. A few men waiting in the queue took him to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead.

His family members said that since the last three days Shah was going to the bank to exchange and deposit the defunct notes. He used to ride on his two-wheeler. On Wednesday too, he left home to be first in the queue. He reached by around 6.45 am and there were about 10 people ahead of him.

The autopsy of the body was done and handed over to the family.
