NEW DELHI: At least three terrorists were gunned down when the Army foiled an infiltration bid in Nowgam sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, an official said on Thursday. One soldier was also martyred during the gunfight.
An army official said soldiers deployed along LoC in Nowgam sector detected a movement of terrorists trying to sneak into this side from across the LoC this morning.
He said the army men fired on the terrorists, who returned the fire from automatic weapons.
“In the ensuing gunfight, three terrorists were killed and one jawan was martyred,” the official said, adding, “the operation is still going on.”
“Three AK-47 rifles have also been recovered,” he said.
Additional reinforcement was rushed to the area to ensure that terrorists don’t manage to infiltrate to this side of LoC, an army official said.
He said intense combing operation underway.
This is the second infiltration attempt by terrorists in last 48 hours and the fourth such along the LoC in less than a fortnight in north Kashmir.
Yesterday, Army foiled an infiltration bid along Line of Control (LoC) in Machil sector of border district of Kupwara in Jammu and Kashmir by killing three terrorists.
Meanwhile, two jawans were also injured in an encounter along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir’s Uri district.
According to news agency ANI, at least five terrorists tried to infiltrate into the Indian side but the Army foiled their attempt.

Since 2016, Uri has been on high alert when the Army base was attacked by heavily armed terrorists. Nineteen jawans were martyred in the attack.
