Jasprit Bumrah is currently in great form and riding high on his wave of success. But it seems his grandfather hasn’t had the same luck in his old age. The 84-year-old Santokh Singh Bumrah lives in Kiccha of Uttarakhand and says he is one of the many Jasprit fans but has been reduced to penury.

In a report by Hindustan Times, Singh said, “It feels great to see Jasprit on television screen performing so well in international matches. I pray to god for his success and meet him once before I die.”

Known as the ‘Yorker King’, Bumrah lost his father in 2001 and was separated from his grandfather after his father’s death. His mother subsequently moved to Ahmadabad in Gujarat, where he was raised and started his cricketing career from.

When Hindustan Times spoke to Jasprit’s grandfather, he expressed a desire to see the boy and give his grandson a hug.  Singh was a successful businessman in the 80s and 90s and had several factories in Gujrat, and Jasprit’s father would reported help him out with the business. But after his death, Singh says, “After Jasbir’s death in 2001, the fate turned and I started running into loses. Sold out factories and shifted to Kiccha with my brothers.” He then bought an auto to help make ends meet. As of today Singh lives in penury with his other son.

When asked about why he hasn’t seen his grandson yet, Singh doesn’t say much, but blames it on ‘sour relations’ with is daughter-in-law.  “Jasprit’s mother was not willing to see us. Recently my daughter visited Ahmadabad. I tried hard to get Jasprit’s contact but couldn’t. I would be grateful if you could please help.”  He added.

Hasprit’s uncle, Jaswinder Singh said that the family  is planning to reunite and they’d look forward to meeting Japrit soon.

Jasprit initially played some good seasons for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL)and was inducted into the Indian Cricket Team during the 2015-2016 Australia series.
